Ben van Berkel studied architecture at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and the Architectural Association in London, receiving the AA Diploma with Honours in 1987. In 1988, he co-founded the Van Berkel & Bos Architectuurbureau with Caroline Bos, expanding their theoretical and writing projects into architectural practice. In 1998, Ben van Berkel established UNStudio (United Net) with Caroline Bos. He has lectured and taught at numerous architectural schools worldwide. From 2011 to 2018, he held the Kenzo Tange Visiting Professor’s Chair at Harvard University Graduate School of Design. He is also currently the IE School of Architecture and Design MArch Thesis Chair and, in 2017, gave a TEDx presentation about health and architecture. Ben van Berkel has designed innovative workplaces such as the Booking.com Campus in Amsterdam and the PwC Headquarters in Düsseldorf, prioritising well-being and sustainability. In his presentation, he will explore architecture’s capacity to enhance the well-being of the workforce, employers and the planet.
